OCRFA Research Helps Explain Resistance to Chemotherapy

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund recently published this article:
(May 4, 2016) Research funded in part by an OCRFA research grant to Dr. Weiping Zou at the University of Michigan has shown that the sensitivity and resistance to cancer chemotherapies is not fully explained by genomic mechanisms as it has previously thought.  In fact, it may be affected by effector T cells (cells that defend the body in an immune response) in the tumor microenvironment. Thus, a combination of platinum-based chemotherapies and immunotherapy could be a promising approach to treating cancer.  The results were published recently in Cell.

CALL TO ACTION TO STOP OVARIAN CANCER FUNDING CUTS

Hi folks,
I just received notice that the Department of Defense, one of the largest congressionally mandated funds for ovarian cancer research, is talking about slashing the funding for ovarian cancer this year.

This is the first year that I will be a consumer advocate for the DoD Ovarian Cancer Research Program. The DoD is one of the largest funders for ovarian cancer research and the research funded has extended the lives of many women now living with chronic ovarian cancer.

If you feel inclined, please consider contacting your senator. Here's the link: http://cqrcengage.com/ovarian/home
